How To Write A Stand Out CV

  • Hiring managers look at a huge volume of CVs. They quickly scan each document - it is essential that your CV grabs their attention quickly.
  • A CV should be no more than 3 pages long. At the top include a short executive summary that details your Key Skills, Experience and Value Add.
  • Your work experience should then be listed in a reverse chronological order, with your most recent position at the top of the list and your first position at the bottom of the list.
  • You should provide more details for the positions that you have held during the last 5 years – as hiring managers are much more interested in your recent work experience.
  • For each role that you have had, you should provide a clear overview of your responsibilities and also state all of your achievements.
  • For each job application – take 5 minutes to Edit your CV. Highlight items that show why you are a great fit for that particular role.
  • At the top of your CV include your full name, date of birth, gender, nationality & language skills. Provide full contact details & if you add a photo make sure it is professional.
  • For every company that you have worked for, state your full job title, the month & year that you joined and left. Also state clearly the dates of any promotion. Be accurate.
  • Include the month and year that you graduated from university, for both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Also include your degree result.
  • List the details for any professional certifications that you have earnt and also any significant training courses that you have undertaken.
  • Read your CV top to bottom a number of times, correct any spelling or grammar errors.
  • Make sure that your CV formatting is clean and consistent throughout the entire document.
